Job Description
We are looking for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to work on a permanent basis in Wigan.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Quantity Surveying graduate to begin their career within the specialist construction sector, working on a diverse range of projects involving building envelopes, façades, cladding, roofing, rainscreen systems, and external wall solutions.
The successful candidate will receive support and mentoring from experienced professionals while developing the technical, commercial, and contractual skills required to build a successful career in quantity surveying.
Salary is c£26-28,000 per annum plus holidays, pension etc
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions.
- Support the commercial management of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account.
- Measure and value works in accordance with project requirements.
- Assist in preparing subcontract packages, procurement schedules, and purchase orders.
- Help monitor project costs, variations, and cash flow.
- Prepare and submit interim valuations and payment applications.
- Support the preparation and agreement of variations, change orders, and final accounts.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
- Attend project meetings and site visits to gain an understanding of project delivery.
- Work closely with project managers, design teams, site teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop an understanding of contracts, procurement methods, and commercial risk management.
Projects
You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of commercial, residential, industrial, and public sector projects involving:
- Building envelope systems
- Façade construction
- Roofing systems
- Cladding installations
- Rainscreen façades
- External wall insulation systems
- Architectural metalwork and associated external building packages
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a closely related construction discipline.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable
- Placement or internship experience within the construction industry.
- Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts.
- Understanding of construction estimating or cost management software.
- Full UK driving licence.
